If you’re visiting Hawaii in March, you might be wondering, is it too late to see whales?

The short answer is no, March is not too late for whale watching in Hawaii. In fact, it’s the final active window of the season. While peak whale density occurs in January and February, sightings are still strong in March and many visitors successfully see humpback whales before they begin migrating back to Alaska. That said, timing matters. Here’s what you should know.

When Does Hawaii Whale Season End?

Hawaii’s humpback whale season typically runs from December through March, with occasional early arrivals and late departures depending on ocean conditions. Here’s how the season generally breaks down:

December: First whales begin arriving

January – February: Peak season (high density and activity)

March: Final active sighitngs

April: Most whales depart Hawaiian waters

By late March, some whales begin heading north, but sightings are still common, especially during the first half of the month.

Is March Still a Good Time for Whale Watching?

Yes! While whale numbers gradually decrease as migration begins, March still offers several advantages:

Mothers and calves are often still visible

Crowds are slightly smaller than peak winter months

Ocean conditions can be calmer than mid-winter days

Tours continue operating daily during the season

If your trip falls in March, you are still within a strong viewing window!

What’s Different About Whale Watching in March?

March marks the beginning of the migration period. Here’s what changes compared to peak season:

More active travel behavior as whales prepare to migrate

Some variability in sighting frequency late in the month

Fewer peak-season crowds

It’s not too late, it’s simply the tail end of the season. For many travelers, March can actually feel more relaxed and less crowded while still offering meaningful whale encounters.

Which Hawaiian Island is Best for Whale Watching in March?

Whales can be seen from multiple Hawaiian islands, but density varies

Oahu: Consistent sightings and convenient departures from Waikiki

Maui: Historically the highest concentration due to shallow channels

Big Island: Possible sightings, though generally less dense

For travelers staying in Waikiki or Honolulu, Oahu remains a convenient and reliable choice throughout March.

Should You Book a Whale Watching Tour in March?

If you’re visiting in March, the answer is yes! Because March is the final stretch of whale season:

Tours still operate daily

Sightings remain common

Availability may fill as the season winds down

Waiting until April is significantly riskier, as most whales will have migrated by then.

Whale Watching from Waikiki in March

For visitors staying in Waikiki, whale watching tours depart directly from Kewalo Basin Harbor near Waikiki/Ala Moana area. One of Oahu’s top rated winter whale tour is:

If you’re visiting Hawaii between February and March, you’re here at a very specific moment of the year. One that doesn’t last long, and one that cannot be recreated later. Hawaii’s humpback whale season is almost over.

By April, the whales begin their long migration back to Alaska, and one of Hawaii’s most extraordinary natural experiences disappears until next winter. If you’re ever wondered whether whale watching is worth it, this is the window when the answer is clearest.

Why This is the Last Chance Whales Season in Hawaii

Humpback whales don’t live in Hawaii year round. They travel thousands of miles each winter from cold northern waters to Hawaii’s warm seas to breed, give brith, and nurse their calves. This migration follows a predictable pattern:

December: Early arrivlas

January – February: Peak Season

March: Final month before departure

April onward: Whales begin leaving Hawaii

That makes February – March the final opportunity to see humpback whales in Hawaii for the season, not later, not next month, but next winter.

What You’ll Miss After March

This is what truly ends when whale season does:

Surface activity like breaching and tail slaps

Close sightings of mother & calf pairs near the islands

The chance to hear live whale songs underwater

Calm, lingering whales resting in warm waters

A once-per-year experience unique to Hawaii’s winter

This isn’t something you can replace with snorkeling, boat tours, or coastal viewpoints later in the year. Once the whales leave, they’re gone.

Why February and March is Still Prime Whale Watching

A common question we hear is “Isn’t March already late?”

Actually no. Late season whale watching often comes with advantages:

Whales are fully settled in the islands

Mother and calf sightings increase

Behavior tends to be calmer and more observable

Weather and daylight are more predictable than early winter

If anything, February and early March offer a balance of high activity + stable conditions.

Why Oahu is a Great Place for Whale Watching

Oahu is often overlooked in favor of neighbor islands, but it offers several advantages:

Whales migrate close to shore

Short travel time from Waikiki

Diamond Head & Gold Coast waters are active viewing areas

Ideal for travelers with limited time

You don’t need to island hop to have a meaningful whale experience.

Recommended Tour for the Final Weeks: Whales and You

For travelers visiting during this final window, Whales and You is designed specifically around Hawaii’s winter whale season.

What makes it a strong choice:

Winter only humpback whale watching tour

Professional marine naturalists onbaord

Hydrophone system to hear live whale songs

Ethical viewing practices (no chasing or harassment)

Family friendly exprience

Free re-ride policy if whales aren’t spotted (conditions apply)

Limited Time 26% OFF Special

For a short time, travelers can receive 26% off with the code NY2026

This isn’t positioned as the reason to go but if you’re already visiting Hawaii before April, it makes the decision easier. Late season opportunities like this don’t come around often, especially during peak months.

Why Shouldn’t Miss This

This experience is especially meaningful for:

First time Hawaii visitors

Families traveling in winter

Nature and wildlife lovers

Travelers visiting between February and March

Anyone who doesn’t want to say “I wish we’d done that”

You don’t need to fill every day with activities, but this is one that genuinely defines the season.

What to Expect on the Day

Morning and afternoon departure available

Ocean conditions vary, whale sightings are wildlife dependent

Safety and respectful viewing come first

Guides explain behavior, migration, and ecology

No guarantees, just honest and ethical whale watching

This transparency is part of what makes the experience rewarding.

If You’re in Hawaii Before April, Don’t Skip This

Hawaii offers incredible experiences year round, but whale season is not one of them.

If you’re here during these final weeks, this is one experience that truly belongs to the moment, not something you can postpone. Sometimes the best travel decisions aren’t about doing more, but about not missing what won’t be there later.

When is Whale Season in Hawaii?

Whale season in Hawaii typically runs from December through April, with the highest concentration of humpback whales appearing between January and March.

Every winter, thousands of humpback whales migrate nearly 3,000 miles from Alaska to Hawaii, making this one of the best whale-watching destinations in the world. If you’re planning a trip in early 2026, January and February remain the most reliable months for sightings.

Peak Whale Watching Months (2026)

December: Early arrivals begin to appear

January – March: Peak season (highest sightings, breaching, calves)

April: End of season, occasional sightings

For travelers planning winter vacations, January through March 2026 offers the best balance of whale activity and ocean conditions.

Why Do Whales Migrate to Hawaii?

Humpback whales migrate to Hawaii to breed, give birth, and nurse their calves in warm, shallow waters.

The cold waters of Alaska are rich in food but too harsh for newborn calves. Hawaii provides:

Warm water temperatures

Fewer predators like orcas

Calm, protected channels between islands

By the time whales arrive, they have fasted for months and rely on stored energy while caring for their young before returning north in spring.

Where to See Whales in Hawaii (Best Spots)

The best whale-watching spots include Maui, Oahu, Big Island, and Kauai. You can easily spot whales from the shore or book an Oahu whale-watching tour for closer views!

Whale Breaching & Migration Behavior

One of the most unforgettable moments during whale season is witnessing a breach—when a whale launches itself out of the water and crashes back down.

Every winter, thousands of humpback whales travel more than 3,000 miles from the icy waters of Alaska to the warm, protected channels of Hawaiʻi. For visitors, this means one of the most incredible natural experiences on earth: seeing a 40-ton whale breach the surface against the backdrop of Diamond Head or the Koʻolau mountains.

If you’re planning a 2025 trip to Oʻahu and wondering when you’ll have the best chance to see whales, this guide covers everything you need to know — peak months, ocean conditions, where to go, and which tours offer the most reliable sightings.

And this season, there’s even better news:

Whales & You and Dolphins & You are both 30% OFF during Black Friday week with code BFCM30.

When Is Whale Season in Oʻahu?

Official Whale-Watching Season: December to March

Humpback whales (koholā in Hawaiian) arrive in the islands beginning in December and remain through March. This four-month window is considered the official whale-watching season in Hawaiʻi.

Peak Months: January & February

If you want the strongest chance of seeing multiple whales in one outing — breaching adults, mothers with calves, tail slaps, pectoral waves — plan your tour during mid-January to late February.
This is when humpback activity is at its absolute highest around Oʻahu.

Early Arrivals (Early November – Early December)

Some whales arrive ahead of schedule — and this year, our crew on Dolphins & You already spotted early-season humpbacks off the West Oʻahu coast.
Early sightings tend to happen on the leeward (west) side because of deeper channels and migratory pathways.

Late Season: March

March remains an excellent month for whale watching. You may see:

Mother whales teaching calves to breach

Playful pectoral slaps from young whales

Pairs drifting slowly along the shoreline

Where Are the Best Places to See Whales in Oʻahu?

1. Waikīkī & South Shore

The waters off Waikīkī and Kewalo Basin are calm, deep, and reliably active during winter.
This is where Whales & You operates daily whale-watching tours from December through March.

Benefits of this region:

Calm morning conditions

Excellent visibility

Close proximity to hotels

Large whale populations offshore

2. West Oʻahu

The west coast features deep channels and warm waters—ideal for whale migration.
Our Dolphins & You tours often encounter whales before the official season begins.

Whales are not the primary focus of this tour, but recent sightings confirm the migration has already begun.

3. Viewing From Shore

If you prefer staying on land, some areas occasionally offer shoreline whale sightings:

Makapuʻu Lighthouse Trail

Diamond Head Lookout

Ko Olina lagoons

Kakaʻako shoreline

These views are beautiful but not nearly as reliable as joining a licensed boat tour.

What Time of Day Is Best for Whale Watching?

Morning Tours = Best Ocean Conditions

Lighter winds

Calmer water

Clearer visibility

This is why most dedicated whale-watching tours operate in the morning.
Afternoons can be windier, leading to choppier conditions and reduced visibility.

Midday Still Works

Whales are active all day, so midday can also be rewarding — especially during peak season.

The Best Way to See Whales

Whales & You (December–March) – Oʻahu Whale-Watching Tour

Your highest chance of seeing humpback whales up close is aboard Whales & You.
Here’s what sets the experience apart:

Expert Whale Guides

Open Viewing Decks

Large, stable decks make it easy to photograph whales from multiple angles.

Family-Friendly + Eco-Certified

The tour follows all NOAA wildlife guidelines and practices responsible marine viewing at a respectful distance.

Can You See Whales on Dolphins & You?

Yes — and We Already Have.

While Dolphins & You is primarily a year-round dolphin and snorkel tour, we often see whales early in the season, especially in November and early December.

Why?

The west side offers:

Deep waters close to shore

Calm morning conditions

Seasonal migration paths

If you’re visiting before whale season officially begins (before December), Dolphins & You gives you a real chance to witness early arrivals — just like our guests did last week.

Note: Dolphin and whale sightings are never guaranteed on any tour. All marine animals are wild and free to roam.

Why Do Whales Come to Hawaiʻi?

Hawaiʻi is one of the world’s most important humpback whale habitats because it offers:

Warm, shallow waters

Protection from predators

Ideal conditions for calving and nursing

Minimal human-made noise (compared to Alaska)

It’s the perfect environment for newborn whale calves to learn how to swim, socialize, and communicate.

For a limited time only, you can book both Whales & You and Dolphins & You at a huge 30% OFF with promo code:

Ready to See Whales in 2025? Here’s Your Plan.

If you’re visiting Oʻahu between December and March, the answer is simple:

Join Whales & You for the highest chance of unforgettable whale encounters.

And don’t forget — you can save big with our Black Friday code:

Whale Season Is Almost Here – and We’ve Already Spotted Humpbacks!

It’s not even December yet, and the ocean is already giving us a reason to celebrate!
Just last week, guests on our Dolphins & You tour in West Oʻahu were lucky enough to spot a humpback whale breaching — a sure sign that Hawaiʻi’s whale season is on the way.

While our dedicated Whales & You tours officially begin in December, these early sightings remind us how magical and unpredictable the ocean can be. Every year, thousands of North Pacific humpback whales travel more than 3,000 miles from Alaska to the warm Hawaiian waters to mate, give birth, and nurse their calves. And sometimes, a few arrive a little early — giving our guests a sneak preview of the season ahead.

Please note: sightings of whales, dolphins, turtles, or any other marine animals are not guaranteed. All our tours are conducted with deep respect for wildlife and their natural behaviors.

When Is Whale Season in Hawaii?

Humpback whales usually start arriving in Hawaiʻi around December, and the season continues through March, peaking between January and February.

During these months, Oʻahu becomes one of the best places in the Pacific to witness these majestic animals up close. They migrate south each winter to the islands’ warm, protected waters — perfect for giving birth and raising their young before the long journey back to Alaska in the spring.

That’s why our Whales & You tour runs only during this window, offering guests the chance to see whales off the coast of Waikīkī and Turtle Canyon. Each trip is a reminder of how vibrant and alive Hawaiʻi’s ocean ecosystem truly is.

Where to See Whales on Oʻahu

While whales can occasionally be spotted from shore, being out on the water gives you the best chance to witness their incredible displays. Here are the top areas around Oʻahu:

South Shore (Waikīkī & Ala Moana area)

This is the home base for our Whales & You tours. Departing from Waikīkī, our boats often encounter humpbacks breaching, tail-slapping, or blowing water just offshore near Turtle Canyon. On calm mornings, you might even hear their hauntingly beautiful songs through the water.

West Oʻahu (Leeward coast)

Early in the season, whales sometimes appear first on Oʻahu’s west side — where our Dolphins & You tours take place. The waters are deep and calm, offering ideal conditions for migrating whales. That’s exactly where our guests spotted them last week!

North Shore (Kaʻena Point and Sunset Beach)

When waves aren’t too large, you can occasionally see whales spouting offshore from the cliffs and beaches. It’s a great spot for land-based viewing later in the season.

What to Expect on a Whale-Watching Tour

A typical whale-watching tour in Oʻahu lasts about two to three hours and offers more than just sightseeing — it’s an immersive encounter with nature.

You might see:

Massive breaches where whales leap entirely out of the water

Tail slaps that echo across the ocean

Playful pectoral waves

A mother whale swimming beside her newborn calf

Every sighting is a little different, and every encounter is unforgettable. Still, it’s important to remember that whales are wild animals in their natural habitat.

Why Are Whales Arriving Early This Year?

Spotting humpbacks as early as November isn’t unusual, but it always sparks excitement!

Marine researchers believe early arrivals may be influenced by:

Warmer ocean temperatures encouraging earlier migration

Healthier populations of humpbacks after decades of conservation efforts

Favorable ocean currents that make their journey slightly faster

Whatever the reason, these early sightings signal the official start of the season — and a wonderful reminder that the whales are back in Hawaiian waters once again.

Join Us for Whale Season in Oʻahu

Our official Whales & You tours start this December and run through March, departing from Waikīkī.
10 Weirdest Sea Creatures in Hawaii

1) Humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa (Reef Triggerfish)

Hawaii’s state fish sports a kaleidoscope of patterns and a name that’s longer than the fish itself. At night it can “lock” its dorsal spine to wedge into rocks for safety, and during the day it hovers and darts like a tiny helicopter with precise fin flicks.

Hawaii local tip: Ever wondered how to pronounce humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa? It’s a tongue-twister even for visitors! Want to know the correct way? Check out this Instagram video on pronunciation.

Where to spot: Shallow reefs around Oahu, especially calm, clear areas off Waikiki’s south shore.

2) Leaf Scorpionfish

Perfectly disguised as a drifting leaf, this ambush hunter gently sways with the current until prey passes by. Its spines are venomous (painful, not usually dangerous)—a classic “look, don’t touch” reminder.

Where to spot: Rock and coral edges with mild surge; a guide’s sharp eyes help a lot.

3) Flying Gurnard

Part fish, part airshow. This bottom-dweller “walks” on the sand and suddenly unfurls giant pectoral fins—electric-blue panels that look like UFO wings—to startle predators.

Where to spot: Sandy flats and rubble zones; sometimes near deeper channels off Oahu’s south and west coasts.

4) Frogfish

The reef’s master of disguise. Frogfish can change color, “walk” on fin-feet, and even dangle a fleshy lure to trick dinner within striking range. Its lightning-fast gulp creates a vacuum that swallows prey whole.

Where to spot: Sponges, algae-covered rocks, and coral heads—often hiding in plain sight.

5) Sea Cucumber

Looks like a soggy sea sausage, but sea cucumbers are the reef’s sanitation crew, recycling sand and nutrients. Some species eject sticky threads—or even organs—to distract attackers. Nature is wild.

Where to spot: Sandy patches between coral heads; move slowly and you’ll see them everywhere.

6) Boxfish (including the Yellow Boxfish)

Imagine a swimming cube with polka dots. Boxfish hover more than swim, steering with tiny fin flicks. Juveniles (bright yellow with black spots) are the cutest anomalies you’ll meet underwater.

Where to spot: Calm reefs with crevices; juveniles sometimes near sheltered lagoon areas.

7) Trumpetfish

Long and flute-like, trumpetfish stalk prey by turning vertical and blending into sea fans or pretending to be a waving stick. They’ll even shadow larger fish to sneak closer to a meal.

Where to spot: Reef slopes and drop-offs; look for motionless “sticks” pointing downward.

8) Parrotfish

With beak-like mouths, parrotfish scrape algae off coral and—believe it—create much of Hawaii’s soft, white beach sand from what they munch. At night, some spin a mucus “sleeping bag” to hide their scent.

Where to spot: Everywhere! Listen for the faint crunching sound as they graze.

9) Garden Eels

An underwater field of noodles. Dozens of pencil-thin eels sway from burrows to grab passing plankton; one ripple or careless kick and they vanish like a magician’s trick.

Where to spot: Deeper sandy slopes beyond shallow reefs; easier to view on calm, clear days.

10) Flying Fish

Built for speed, these silver bullets rocket out of the water and glide on wing-like fins for astonishing distances—sometimes pacing your boat between swells.

Where to spot: Open water off Oahu’s south and west shores, especially on boat trips in the morning.

Tips for Spotting Hawaii’s Marine Oddities

Go with a guide: Camouflage pros (frogfish, leaf scorpionfish) are hard to find solo. Guides know micro-habitats and safe, low-impact approach angles.

Move slowly: Slow kicks = more critters. Quick flailing = clouds of sand and spooked fish.

Respect wildlife: Look, never touch. Some animals have spines or sensitive skin; keep a safe distance.

Reef-safe sunscreen: Choose mineral formulas and apply 20–30 minutes before entering the water.

Morning ocean: Usually calmer with better visibility—ideal for first-timers and photography.

FAQs About Weird Sea Creatures in Hawaii

<details open="open">

What weird fish live in Hawaii?

Plenty! The humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa (Hawaii’s state fish), color-shifting frogfish, leaf scorpionfish, and hover-happy boxfish top the list. Many appear on shallow reefs that beginners can access with a guide.

</details>
<details open="open">

Where can you see unusual sea creatures in Oahu?

Reef zones off Waikiki (like Turtle Canyon) and Oahu’s west coast near Waiʻanae are great. A guided trip such as Turtles and You or Dolphins and You makes it easier—and safer—to spot camouflaged species.

</details>
<details open="open">

Are Hawaii’s weird sea creatures dangerous?

Most are harmless if observed respectfully. Some have spines (leaf scorpionfish) or can release irritants (certain sea cucumbers). Keep hands off the reef, and follow your guide’s instructions.

</details>
<details open="open">

Can beginners see these strange animals while snorkeling?

Absolutely. Calm, guided snorkels often reveal parrotfish, trumpetfish, sea cucumbers, and even frogfish if you’re lucky. Beginner tours provide flotation, instruction, and watchful crews.

</details>
<details open="open">

This week marks the end of the Whale season in Hawaii, and I was lucky enough to join this awesome whale watching boat tour before it wraps up. I want to share my experience with this whale-watching tour and some helpful tips if you’re considering booking it for next winter!

How I Booked the Whale Watching Tour?

I was traveling solo and knew that whale watching was something I absolutely wanted to experience before the season ended. So I quickly went on Google and searched “whale watching Oahu.” Then I noticed a list of tours and I clicked the one tour appeared at the very top of the list since the rating and review was pretty high. I started to browse through their official website.

From the moment I landed on their page, I could tell this tour offered quite various experiences in a few hours, which was perfect for me since I only had a couple of days left to stay in Hawaii. Not only did they include whale watching, but they also mentioned the possibility of dolphin sightings, listening to ultrasonic whale sounds, complimentary snacks, and even hotel pick-up service. It felt like a well-rounded, thoughtful experience—so I decided to book directly through their official website, which only took a little bit of scrolling down to find the booking section. The process was quite smooth and convenient too.

Warm Welcome & Departure

This exciting journey began with a pick-up at DFS Waikiki, where I was greeted warmly by the driver. After one more stop at the Aqua Palms Hotel, we headed straight to the harbor. While waiting to board, I completed a quick safety waiver check-in through the QR code they provided, and then it was time to get on the boat and start the adventure! As I and other tourists settled in, the crew offered the popular local snack called poi donuts, along with optional coffee, tea, and water—a nice and sweet touch to begin the morning.

Setting Sail with Hawaiian Traditions

Before we sailed out, the crew led an “E Ho Mai” chant, a Hawaiian culture of blessing for a safe and fruitful voyage, which for us is watching many whales and other ocean creatures. While we waited, the crew shared fascinating facts about the whales:

These humpback whales migrate all the way from Alaska to Hawaii to mate and give birth.

Adult whales don’t eat during this period—they fast!

Each whale’s tail is unique, like a fingerprint.

Then… the moment arrived. I saw massive tails rising and splashing and even witnessed a few breaches! There was more than one whale, and the crew told us that it seemed like this pack included a mother and babies, which was amazing and cute.
Whale Song: A Magical Experience on Oahu’s Waters

If you’re looking for an unforgettable whale-watching tour on Oahu, you’re in for more than just a visual treat! On our tours, you don’t just see humpback whales—you get to hear their mesmerizing songs with the help of a hydrophone.

What is a Hydrophone?

A hydrophone is an underwater microphone that captures sounds in the ocean. It’s designed to pick up even the faintest noises, including the enchanting songs of humpback whales.

Can Humans Hear Whale Songs Underwater?

Whales produce a wide range of frequencies, from 30 Hz to 8,000 Hz. However, humans can only hear part of their songs. We can’t detect the lowest frequencies, which start around 30 Hz. Humans begin hearing low sounds at around 100 Hz, so we only catch the mid-to-high notes. Despite this, the melodies you’ll hear through our hydrophone are magical and unlike anything else in nature!

Whale Songs and Sound Variations

Humpback whales make many different sounds. You may hear moans, cries, and howls. These songs are just one part of their vocal repertoire. Whales also use sounds like grunts, groans, snorts, and barks for communication and hunting. While both male and female humpback whales vocalize, it’s the males who perform the long, continuous songs we recognize as whale songs.

Humpbacks can sing for over 24 hours by forcing air through their nasal passages, despite not having vocal cords. Their songs vary depending on their population. Humpbacks in the North Atlantic sing a different song from those in the North Pacific—like regional dialects. Songs last 10-20 minutes, repeating constantly but slowly evolving over time. The theme changes in unison across the group, which remains a mystery to scientists.

While these songs usually can’t be heard by the human ear underwater, you’ll have the rare opportunity to listen through our hydrophone. It’s a truly unique experience that will immerse you in the magical world of humpback whales.

Why Do Whales Sing?

Humpback whale songs are believed to serve multiple purposes. The strongest theory links singing to mating. Males sing to attract mates, especially during the breeding season. The songs can also travel long distances, allowing whales to communicate with others across vast expanses of ocean.

Some scientists suggest that the songs might also serve a social function. Male whales may use them to challenge other males and defend their territory.

Humpback whales, the gentle giants of the ocean, captivate our imaginations with their immense size and graceful movements. Nowhere is their presence more profound than in the pristine waters surrounding Hawaii, where these magnificent creatures migrate annually for breeding and calving. Among the many wonders of humpback whales is their remarkable ability to hold their breath underwater for extended periods, a skill that enables them to navigate the depths with ease.

How Do Humpback Whales Stay Underwater for So Long?

Humpback whales have evolved remarkable adaptations that allow them to dive for extended periods. These adaptations include:

Large Lungs: Their lungs can store vast amounts of oxygen, helping them sustain long dives.

Flexible Ribcage: This unique feature allows their bodies to compress under deep-sea pressure without harm.

Efficient Oxygen Use: Specialized blood chemistry ensures that oxygen is delivered to vital organs even when submerged for extended periods.

Average Time Humpback Whales Can Hold Their Breath

On average, humpback whales can hold their breath for 15 to 30 minutes during routine dives. Exceptional individuals, however, have been recorded holding their breath for over 45 minutes! This demonstrates the incredible endurance of these marine mammals.

Factors Influencing Dive Duration

Several factors affect how long a humpback whale can stay underwater:

Purpose of the Dive: Feeding, resting, or socializing all require different levels of exertion.

Health and Age: Younger and healthier whales generally have better endurance.

Environmental Conditions: Water temperature and prey availability also play a role.

How Do Humpback Whales Compare to Other Marine Mammals?

Humpback whales’ breath-holding capacity is impressive but varies among marine mammals. For example, sperm whales are renowned for dives exceeding an hour, while dolphins typically surface after 10 to 15 minutes. Each species has evolved unique strategies for survival in their ecological niche.

Experience the Magic of Humpback Whales in Waikiki

Hawaii holds a special significance for humpback whales, serving as a sanctuary during the winter months. The warm waters surrounding the Hawaiian Islands provide an ideal environment for breeding and calving, making it a top destination for whale enthusiasts.

Book Your Waikiki Whale Watching Tour Today!

Embark on an unforgettable journey with our Waikiki Whale Watching Tour.
