Marukame Udon is a famous noodle chain in Japan that is quite unique. Marukame Udon is a standing self service restaurant that allows you to choose from a variety of different dishes.
When the staff at Marukame Udon asks you what Udon to choose from, they will make it in front of you right away. You only have a few choices but since the line is so long, be spend that time deciding what you want so you can order it quickly.
As you go through the line, after ordering your noodles, you’ll also be provided the opportunity to choose from an amazing selection of tempura (deep fried) items, as well as musubi and other delicious foods.

Once you’ve loaded up your tray with the noodles and food you want, and you pay the cashier, grab your utencils, napkins and find a table.
Since this restaurant is always packed, you might have to wait a minute, but eventually one will open up and you’ll be able to sit down and enjoy your food.
Marukame Udon is known for being delicious and affordable. The average meal starts at just $6.00 (a steal in Waikiki!) and is a great place for lunch or dinner with family and friends.
Marukame Udon has been nominated as the number one spot in the Top 10 Best Japanese Restaurant category on Trip Advisor, and for good reason. Our Japanese staff at And You Creations agrees that this place has an authentic Japanese touch. If you’ve never had authentic Japanese udon before, then this will set the bar pretty high.
Pro Tip: If you want the lightest lines, go either right when they open at 7:00 AM, during their mid-day lull around 3:00 PM, or just before closing after 9:00 PM. Otherwise, make sure your cell phone is charged since you’ll be spending a lot of time checking your Instagram feed! 🙂
